How Enercon Delivers More Than Equipment to Ensure Your Operation’s Success

Enercon’s VP of Sales, Mike McConnell, recently shared his insights with the flexible packaging industry. Hot topics include the skilled labor shortage, biopolymers, reducing scrap, and more.

With the skilled labor shortage, how does Enercon help manufacturers?

Training, safety, and simplified operation. We provide free training and have the largest library of training materials available for our customers. Our enhanced safety guarding solutions are designed to protect inexperienced equipment operators. Plus, our power supplies provide integrated operator support and remote integration to minimize dependency on operator expertise.

What’s new with the treatment of biopolymers, PCR and other novel flexible packaging structures?

Enercon partners with resin manufacturers, film producers, and film converters to qualify the viability of new films for scaled production. Whether it be biopolymers, PCR, or other flexible packaging structures, we use our surface treating laboratory to identify the most efficient technology designs and operational considerations. To date, we’ve found solutions for just about everything presented to us.

How can flexible packagers reduce scrap related to corona treating?

We’re passionate about helping our customers reduce scrap and making their corona treating operations as efficient as possible. To do that, you must understand the application and the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) equipment the corona treater will be integrated with. Through close cooperation with the OEM and end user, we can then optimize web handling, treatment levels and integration for seamless and reliable performance.

What are some innovations Enercon is working on?

Our design engineers are incorporating feedback from film extruders, converters and OEMS on some exciting new solutions related to web handling, form, fit, and function, as well as continuing to simplify operation and routine maintenance. We’re extremely excited about the next generation of corona treaters and how they will make a significant impact on our customers’ operations.

What is Enercon’s philosophy as a partner with flexible packaging operations?

We’re in the business of helping our customers be successful. We don’t sell corona treaters, we help flexible packagers make more money by reducing scrap, reducing downtime, and providing them with innovative technology that makes the corona treating process as automatic as possible.

What exactly does High-Definition Corona refer to?

Great question. Enercon introduced the term nearly 20 years ago to describe corona produced with our proprietary ceramic roll coating blend and its optimized use with our high-powered ceramic electrodes. The unique combination produces a plasma-like homogeneous corona without filamentary discharge, yielding higher treatment levels and reduced application issues. Today the term high-definition corona is widely adopted by others to describe corona produced with other methods. However, Enercon’s High-Definition Corona remains unmatched.

Universal Roll

Enercon has a very large install base across North America; how does that benefit flexible packagers?

If you are a multi-facility corporation, it’s more than likely Enercon treaters are in operation in all of your facilities. This continuity allows us to support our customers wholistically, rather than just supporting one system at a time. With visibility into so many operations, and a domestic team of support engineers, we provide comprehensive and prompt support on a scale that is simply not available from others. This includes maintenance contracts and services.
