Quality Edge Converting Finally Retires 30-Year-Old Enercon Corona Treater

Quality Edge Converting just bought their first corona treater directly from Enercon. It’s equipped with the latest Compak™ Pro power supply and produces powerful corona to enable ink and adhesive bonding with polyester-based and polypropylene films. This treater replaces a 30-year-old Enercon corona treater the company inherited when they acquired another company 15 years ago.

The Winnipeg-based company, Quality Edge Converting, is a leading converter of flexible materials and serves the index tabbing and reinforcing, wire & cable and custom converting industries. Their flexible operations allow them to run a vast array of substrates at narrow and wide widths.

“The decision to go with Enercon for the new treater was an easy one,” says Operations Manager Derek Riel. “We chose Enercon because our staff had experience dealing with them in the past and had very good experiences with their products and customer service. We knew that by choosing Enercon we would continue to get a machine that would work well with our application; and customer service would help with any questions or concerns we had along the way.”

“The decision to go with Enercon for the new treater was an easy one. My experience with Enercon has been very positive! They are easy to deal with, walked us through getting all the information that was needed to make sure we got the right system for us, and made sure everything went smoothly during installation.”

The company receives support directly from Enercon’s factory in the USA as well as from Enercon’s long time Canadian Representative, Webconvert Ltd. President Dirk Kroll says, “Webconvert and Enercon share a commitment to our customers to ensure their success. This starts with helping them accurately define their surface treating application so that we can customize a solution that uniquely meets their needs.”

Riel confirms, “My experience with Enercon has been very positive! They are easy to deal with, walked us through getting all the information that was needed to make sure we got the right system for us, and made sure everything went smoothly during installation.”

In this case, an Enercon ASO treater with ceramic electrodes, a special roll covering and a 2 kW power supply was specified. The treater offers several advantages including a clean-in-place design, a counter weighted electrode assembly to protect the ceramic electrodes, and an exhaust system that acts as both a cooling system and ozone removal system.

The system’s new Compak™ Pro power supply offers Quality Edge Converting an advanced touchscreen interface with a full complement of modern features that simply were not available thirty years ago. The power supply offers station diagnostic and fault logs, integrated troubleshooting advice, and a maintenance reminder system complete with logging capabilities. Kroll says, “This power supply is remarkably easy to use, yet provides our customers with so much value, I’d recommend any corona treater operation to consider an upgrade to this new technology.”

The smooth transition of implementing the new surface treater enabled Quality Edge Converting to keep pace with customer orders. The new Enercon corona treater ensures optimal adhesion of inks and adhesives on their materials. According to Riel, “We are a very flexible company in terms of operations and can handle large and small runs. We can color match in-house to most colors for lamination and can accommodate a wide range of industries. We have lots of experience and love taking on new challenges.”
