Setting your cap sealer power level

Follow these steps to insure proper sealing power.

  1. Insure sealing head is aligned correctly. [Details]
  2. Set conveyor for the production line speed.
  3. Insure land of the bottle top (seal point on bottle) is reasonably free of burns, seams, etc.
  4. Insure caps are properly torqued, applying proper force to seat the seals . Consult the cap manufacturer for proper settings. A rule of thumb is to use 1/2 the liner diameter (in millimeters) as the torque setting in inch-pounds. Example: a 38mm liner would require 19 inch-pounds of torque. See our suggested cap torque guide below.
  5. Start at minimum power (typically 25%). Run a single container underneath the sealing coil. Check the bottle for a seal. Did it seal at all? If it partially sealed, use a new bottle and go to Step 6. If it didn't, repeat the test with a 10% power increase until the container seals.
  6. Refine the setting with 1-2% power adjustments until the desired seal is achieved.
  7. Position and run a tightly grouped number of containers in-line which completely occupies the full length underneath the sealing head. This will test the power load requirements for a maximum loading situation using these containers. Verify the power output meter reads a constant value when performing this test.
  8. Record power level settings (meter reading), line speed, and cap type for future reference. Do this for the various types of caps and containers used.
