The company had found some success with an air\/gas burner mounted on a robot. While it was functional, it lacked the precision PCC required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe were using a torch head on a robot arm,\u201d explains Andrew Bloom, LP Senior Product Engineer at PCC Airfoils. \u201cIt did the job, but it was hard to get an accurate treatment pattern and difficult to maintain consistent treatment intensity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Solution: Enercon Flame Series Plasma Treaters<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>PCC connected with Enercon through their automation vendor, I-C Automation. To help in their evaluation of Enercon\u2019s <a href=\"\/plasma-treating\/plasma-flame-treaters\/flame-series\/\">Flame Series 400 plasma treater<\/a>, Enercon provided a consignment unit for proof-of-concept testing. This allowed PCC to validate Enercon\u2019s high velocity drilled port burner design and combustion control technology in real-world conditions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"250\" src=\"https:\/\/media.enerconind.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2023\/09\/02145607\/PowerFlame-high-velocity-burner.jpg\" alt=\"PowerFlame\u2122 High Velocity Burner\" class=\"wp-image-1623\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.enerconind.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2023\/09\/02145607\/PowerFlame-high-velocity-burner.jpg 480w, https:\/\/media.enerconind.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2023\/09\/02145607\/PowerFlame-high-velocity-burner-300x156.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe used the consignment unit to prove out the process,\u201d says Bloom. \u201cIt gave us the chance to test the drilled port burner and see how it performed in our environment. The results were impressive.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enercon\u2019s flame treaters are designed to clean, etch and functionalize the ceramic surface to promote better bonding. The drilled port design produces a powerful high velocity flame ideal for ensuring consistency while operating at high speeds.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" src=\"https:\/\/media.enerconind.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2023\/09\/02145718\/flame-series-pro-product-image.png\" alt=\"Flame Series Pro\" class=\"wp-image-1379\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.500982087889537;width:663px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.enerconind.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2023\/09\/02145718\/flame-series-pro-product-image.png 800w, https:\/\/media.enerconind.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2023\/09\/02145718\/flame-series-pro-product-image-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/media.enerconind.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2023\/09\/02145718\/flame-series-pro-product-image-768x512.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Enercon flame treaters quickly won over the PCC Airfoils team. Treatment consistency improved, the system offered superior intensity control, and treatment times were significantly reduced \u2013 all of which are key factors in preparing ceramic surfaces for coating and adhesion applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, the Enercon flame treaters also provided built-in fail-safe features to ensure safe operation and proper ventilation over the torch head PCC was previously using.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Growing Adoption and Expansion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following successful trials, PCC began integrating Enercon systems into its production lines, purchasing their first flame system in 2023.
