Unable to Start

The following is a description of a blank micro display on an Enercon Compak 9000 power supply. This condition may result from a variety of circumstances.

Symptom

The power supply will not start.

Fault

There are several factors that must be satisfied or conditions met in order to start the power supply. Verify each of the following in order before proceeding to the next step.

Solution

Check the micro display. Verify the condition of each step before proceeding to the next step.

  1. Power On.
    1. Illuminated. Proceed to Step 2.
    2. De-Energized.
      1. Verify the circuit breaker is on.
      2. Verify the cooling fans are energized.
        1. If not, check the control transformer fuse. May have an interlock short circuit.
        2. Verify input power is available to the power supply.
      3. With a DC voltmeter, measure the DC voltage of the microcontroller located on the power supply door. Verify 24 VDC is present across C8 on the microcontroller.
        1. If present, replace the microcontroller.
        2. If not, proceed to next step.
      4. With a DC voltmeter, measure the DC voltage on the driver board. Place the common lead on E10 and measure the voltage at D29 or D30 cathode.
        1. If 24 VDC is present, check the ribbon cable connection at the microboard and the driver board. Ensure the ribbon cable is not damaged.
        2. If no voltage, measure the 115 VAC supply voltage at E11 and E12.
          1. If good, replace the driver board.
          2. If bad, verify step b above.
  2. Controller Ready
    1. Illuminated, proceed to Step 3.
    2. De-energized, turn power off and back on to reset the controller. If still de-energized, replace the microcontroller.
  3. Auto/Manual, Local/Remote - These lights describe the controls available for the power supply. To change the condition, depress the auto/manual, local/remote buttons on the power supply.
NOTE: This may not apply depending on the software installed. Some systems have software designed to operate only in manual operation. If you are unsure of your software capability, contact Enercon's Service Department for assistance.
    1. If the status switches, proceed to Step 4.
    2. If unable to change state, check ribbon connection from membrane switch to microcontroller.
    3. Replace the microcontroller.
  4. Run - The run light illuminates when all interlocks and the zero speed are satisfied and the start button has been pressed. The run condition will exist when both contactors K1 and K2 are energized.
    1. Illuminated
      1. If no output power is displayed, switch the control of the power supply to local/manual control and attempt to change power levels.
        1. If satisfactory, check the remote control panel and interconnection wires.
        2. If unsatisfactory, proceed to trouble shoot the "no output" symptom.
    2. De-Energized
      1. Check the condition of the station fault light.
        1. Illuminated, check the station for the cause of the open interlock.
        2. De-energized, it will be necessary to simulate a run condition to determine if the fault is the zero speed sensor, or the microcontroller. To simulate a run signal, place the power supply in the local/manual mode. Short terminals E3 and E4 on the microcontroller. The treater roll speed will be displayed on the micro display in the lower right corner.
          1. Speed indication is functional, replace the microcontroller.
          2. No speed indication is displayed, proceed to troubleshoot a "station" fault
