Low Output Power

Symptom

The output power from the power supply is low. The power level will not reach the rated output.

Fault

There are several possible causes for low output power.

Solution

  1. Check to verify the power supply controls and power set point are at the desired level.
  2. Check to ensure the power supply is not in a limit condition.
    1. Open the power supply door.
    2. Verify that the red LED, (D2), located on the control board is not energized.
    3. If the LED is energized, contact Enercon's Service Department for assistance.
  3. Check the corona treating station, verify the load is correct.
    1. Ensure the electrode bar area is sufficient for the power supply.
      1. The bare roll, ceramic electrode is capable of 60 watts per inch for the pair of electrodes in the assembly. Insufficient electrode area will cause a mismatch condition.
      2. For covered roll stations, the electrode area is determined by the roll dielectric covering, contact Enercon's Service Department for required areas.
    2. Verify the electrode air gap is set at .060" or 1.5mm.
  4. Verify the input voltage is at +/- 10% of the rated input on the power supply rating plate located inside the power supply door.
  5. The power reference signal supplied to the control board is determined by the voltage level supplied to U1.
    1. Verify the voltage level at U1, Pin 1 switches from +15VDC to a 0 volt level. To test, connect a DC volt meter positive lead to U1 Pin 1 and the common to TB1 Pin 6 on the control board.
      1. If the voltage level does not switch, check the ribbon cable plug connections on the control board and the membrane panel.
      2. Ensure the blue stripe on the ribbon cable is connected to Pin1 on both plugs.
      3. Replace the membrane assembly.
      4. If the voltage does switch, replace the control board.
  6. Contact Enercon's Service Department for assistance.
