Gen Trip

The following is a description of an gen trip on your Enercon Compak 2000 power supply.

Gen Trip
Symptom & Fault
Symptom The Gen light illuminates when the start button is pressed.
Fault The most likely cause for the Gen light is a high voltage arc at the station. This is due to a dielectric failure at the electrode, the roll covering or the high voltage wire. Another possible cause is the power level is set too high. A readjustment of power may solve the problem.

Solution
  1. Readjust the power level and attempt to restart the power supply. The current surge, sensed by the trip circuit, which is necessary to ionize the air gap may be activating the trip function.
  2. Check the station electrodes for failed or pinholed electrodes.
  3. Check the high voltage wiring from the transformer to the terminal block. The lead from the transformer to the terminal block should be isolated from control wires and ground by a minimum of 2".
  4. Inspect the station for signs of carbon tracking or arcing on the shrouding and electrode mounting blocks.
  5. It may be necessary to clean the station. Foreign matter build-up may result in moisture retention, due to the humidity, which can result in a conductive path to ground.
