The following is a description of an electrode assembly which will not pivot freely on an Enercon surface treating system.
| Symptom, Fault |
| Symptom |
The electrode assemblies don't pivot freely which results in broken electrodes or the electrode assembly has to be moved back into the treat position. |
| Fault |
There are a few possible causes for this problem. |

| Solutions |
- The collar which provides the electrode position indication for the interlock circuit is binding at the bearing housing. (Item 7) NOTE! - The collar is on both ends, but the interlock switch is only installed on one end.
- Loosen the 3 sets of screws and reposition the collar away from the bearing housing.
- Ensure the interlock functions properly when repositioned.
- The electrode bearings may be binding due to misalignment, the bearing may be cocked in the housing. (Item 6)
- Loosen the electrode position indication collar on each end of the electrode assembly. (Item 7)
- Force the electrode assembly in the direction of the high voltage transformer end. The pressure applied will force the bearing to seat correctly on the assembly tube.
- Force the electrode assembly in the opposite direction.
- Readjust the electrode position indication collars.
- Verify the interlocks function properly.
- The bearing may require cleaning. Follow the step by step procedure below.
- Disconnect the electrodes at the high voltage terminal block and remove them from the assembly.
- Remove the electrode interlock switch and the ground strap.Disconnect the pneumatic tubing from the air cylinders.
- Remove the screws (1) from the electrode adjusting blocks (2) and remove the blocks (on both ends).
- Remove the adjustment stud (3) and holding socket head screw (4).
- Slide the assembly out of the station.
- Remove the bearing seals before removing the bearing housings (5) from the exhaust tube.
- To clean, the whole bearing housing can be soaked in a solvent to remove any contaminates. If replacing a bearing (6), carefully remove it from the housing. Ensure the housing does not get damaged.
- Regrease the bearings with a multipurpose lithium grease.
- Reinstall the housing on the exhaust tube and the bearing seals.
- Reinstall the assembly in the station.
- Reinstall the adjustment stud and the holding socket head screw.
- Reinstall the electrode adjustment blocks.
- Reconnect the pneumatic tubing to the air cylinders.
- Reconnect the interlock switch and ground strap.
- Reinstall the electrodes and reconnect them to the high voltage block.
- Set tilt, gap, and adjust electrode interlock switch for proper operation.
