Air-Cooled or Water-Cooled?
In recent years there has been a gradual shift from the use of water-cooled systems to air-cooled systems. Because of advances in power supply technology, air cooled power supplies are now able to achieve speeds that were once only in the realm of water-cooled systems. The benefits of air-cooled systems are obvious: a lower priced system and none of the hassles of maintaining a water recirculation system. There are some applications where water cooled systems still have a slight advantage, but generally air cooled systems will satisfy most production requirements. With the newest developments in air cooled technology, air-cooled systems can operate at the same line speeds as water cooled units. There are several air cooled units successfully sealing at a rate of 800 cpm.
What is the difference between air-cooled, self cooled and waterless induction cap sealing systems? Simply, all three terms refer to induction sealing systems that do not require a water system to cool the sealing head.
Computer Integration
Other recent developments include microprocessor control allowing for improved operator interfaces and the ability to control cap sealers from a single line control station. Integrated inspection, sealing and rejection functionality are also available and enhance productivity.
Capless Sealing
Capless induction sealing also presents intriguing opportunities for packagers. Induction sealing requires the proper combination of heat, time and pressure. Without a threaded cap you need to apply pressure by some other means. Systems are available that utilize an overhead belt to apply pressure while other table-top models rely on air pressure.
It is also possible to configure induction sealing units into existing conduction system designs. Using induction instead of conduction makes for a more efficient operation with instant start-up, higher speeds and minimal maintenance. These in-line & rotary systems offer an excellent alternative to conventional conduction sealing equipment.
Enercon systems are designed to operate in a maximum ambient temperature of 40°C (104°F) @ 80% relative humidity, non-condensing.
